Today’s consumer is exposed to a daily barrage of advertisements for air fresheners and deodorizers. These products promise simple, effective, and inexpensive solutions for life’s embarrassing odor problems. The ads tell us to simply sprinkle some powder on the carpet, place a scent releasing agent on the counter, or mist an aerosol into the air to remove all offensive odors.
This rise in awareness has triggered a flood of deodorizers that are, in many cases, ineffective. Additionally, deodorizers and air fresheners are not controlled and regulated by the government.

Pet Odors

Pet odor is a very common problem. At Xtra Touch, we can help you deal with your pet challenges; whether it is a minor or major odor problem, we can help find a solution that works best for you. In many cases, our normal cleaning process is all that is needed to correct minor pet problems. The powerful rinsing action of our cleaning system can effectively remove urine from carpet fiber. The problem with pet odor, however, is that it can be much deeper than it first appears. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath.

In more severe cases, the urine can penetrate into the subfloor beneath the padding. This creates a multilayered problem—the urine provides for the growth of bacteria, which in turn contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to a permanent color loss on the carpet fiber. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. Please note that when cleaning urine spots, there is a difference between cleaning the urine stain and treating the odor. Cleaning existing urine spots MAY NOT remove any associated odor. In fact, it could increase the odor in the air space for a temporary period of time. Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics. When urine is first deposited, it is in an almost neutral state and easier to remove when it is fresh. Once it dries, it turns alkaline and becomes more difficult to remove. If left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or floor type, it will permanently change the dye structure, therefore causing permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.
